Dr. Charles John McAllister's Obituary
Charles John McAllister was born on December 1, 1947, in Brooklyn, New York, to John and Lillian McAllister. Charlie grew up in Queens Village, New York, went to Incarnation school, Martyr Christi High School in Astoria, St. Francis College in Brooklyn, New York, and SUNY at Buffalo for Medical School. He did his internship and residency in Internal medicine at Nassau County Medical Center. From there he went to Vanderbilt University in Nashville and did his two-year fellowship in Nephrology. In 1978 he moved to Clearwater, FL and set up the first acute dialysis unit in Morton Plant Hospital. He was Chief of Medicine for a year at Morton Plant in the early nineties. He was a compassionate and caring physician to his patients and was held in high esteem by his fellow physicians. In 2020 he was offered the position of Chief Medical Officer in DaVita Renal Company overseeing all Dialysis units in the United States. He later got his Masters in Addiction Medicine helping patients with drug and alcohol dependency.
He found time to serve 10 years in the Navy Reserves as Commander because he wanted to give back to the country he loved. In his spare time, he collected antique Dinky toys; was a member of Bible study group at his church, and an avid reader.
Charlie passed away on April 30, 2026, in the care of hospice. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Lillian McAllister and brother-in-law Bruce Creighton. He leaves behind his wife of almost 56 years, Diane, his three adult children Jill, Kelly (Charlie), and son Myles, seven grandchildren, Kacey, Hadley, Charlie, Banks, Fletcher, Mary and Henry, and his sister Joan Creighton. Of all his accomplishments his greatest title was Grandpa to his grandchildren whom he loved with all his heart. Charlie was a good, kind person and his family will miss him terribly.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Parkinson's Foundation.
