Dear Uncle Dick,
You mean the world to me! My entire life you have given me love and affection and spoiled me rotten. Every happy memory of family includes you. While you were a quiet presence amid the noisy, loquacious Italian side of our family, your presence was nevertheless substantial. Out of the blue you would weigh in with a pithy, wry comment that set us all straight and/or howling with laughter. (We always enjoyed good wine when we were together, so naturally there was a lot of laughter!)
I’ve tried to think if there was ever a time when you said something rude or judgmental or disappointed us in any way. I can’t think of a single thing – and I knew you for 56 years. How does someone live a life of such purity and goodness? (I can’t make it a week without misbehaving.) I don’t believe I’m using selective memory. Truly – all our times together were precious. You are sorely missed!
Until we meet again….
Love and best wishes,
~Ann Marie
