Charles Richard "Dick" Short's Obituary
Charles Richard "Dick" Short 82, with much sadness lost his courageous battle to complications of Parkinson’s on October 8, 2017.
He is preceded in death by his parents Elizabeth and Raymond Short, and his twin brother, Donald.
A carefree childhood was spent in Safety Harbor. He grew up in Clearwater and was a Clearwater High School (class of ’53) graduate. He became a proud Marine and then graduated from the University of Florida.
For many years, he worked at the Pinellas County Courthouse, first as a Florida State Auditor, earned his CPA and retired as Pinellas County Finance Director.
He was a devoted, dedicated and cherished husband, father and family man. Left to mourn his loss is his loving wife, Joan, of 57 years; sons Christopher and Stephen; sister-in-law Diane Willard (Lee); niece Ann Marie Mirialakis; nephew Nicholas Mirialakis (Amy); brother Phillip Short (Pat) and their family, Alexander, Oliva, Jennifer and Jake; cousins Dorothy Taylor (Mike), Sandra Rothrock (Rocky), Peggy Miller and their families, Michael Short (Lillias) and his son Ian.
He enjoyed music, theater, cooking, sailing, playing Santa Claus and the simple pleasures of life – especially eating and drinking wine with family and friends.
Words are inadequate for the family to express their appreciation to the team at Arden Courts Palm Harbor for their kindness, support, thoughtfulness and friendship. They became extended family. The family extends a special thank you to Suncoast Hospice Palm Harbor for their help and thoughtfulness. A celebration of Dick’s life will be announced at a later date.
With a quiet, kind and generous nature, Dick was a humble man of integrity whose acts of love and humor will live in our hearts. Dick will be dearly missed and always loved.
Ciao.
