Donald Charles Guckian - born June 6, 1941 in Rochester, NY the only child of Ruthe (school teacher) and Charles (sign painter)Guckian , both now deceased. Married Christine Kassianos on May 28, 1961.in Batavia NY; Children – Donna Ellis and Thomas Guckian – Both live in Marietta GA
Grandchildren – Chas and Jackie Ellis and Kristen and Kylie Guckian
Attended Seward Elementary School in Rochester and Graduated in 1959 from Pittsford Central High School in Pittsford, NY. Attend 2 years at Brockport State Teachers College in Brockport NY where he met and married Christine.
Went to work for Taylor Instrument Company in 1961 and was transferred to Clearwater FL in September 1962 as a sales representative. He traveled the state of Florida for Taylor’s until 1975 when he went to work for Sonitrol Security as general manager. He retired from Sonitrol in July 2003.
In his years in Clearwater he has been involved in many groups.
He started off in the Clearwater Jaycees where he held various offices and duties.
He was a Little League manager for Exchange Bank in the Clearwater National league starting in 1965 even before his son was eligible to play. He also served as an All Star manager several years.
He went on to Babe Ruth continuing to coach and manage until his son Tom entered high school in 1978.
In 1967, he met Nick Cavallaro who introduced him to Clearwater Central Catholic High School, the Phillies and announcing. He announced the Football and Basketball games and became the Voice of the Marauders. He is one of the original members of the CCC Hall of Fame in 2001. He still has students come up to him, saying they still remember his announcing from high school. He gave up the football games when he started going to Auburn Football games in 1984, but continues to announce and keep the scorebook at home for the girls and boys basketball games.
For the past 31years he has been the PA announcer for the Clearwater Phillies/Clearwater Threshers.
Joined the Clearwater Rotary Club in 1987. Received the Alfred P Marshall award March 30, 2005.
Hobbies other than sports include model train collecting, riding the real trains and watching the ocean going ships at the Welland Canal.
