Douglas Francis Smith's Obituary
Douglas Francis Smith, a loving husband, devoted father, caring grandfather, and cherished
friend, passed away surrounded with love on October 30, 2024, at the age of 78.
Born on August 1, 1946, in Sioux City, Iowa, Doug grew up under the guidance of his strong,
independent mother, Kathleen. He developed a lifelong love for music, particularly classic rock,
and a passion for photography, capturing countless moments of his family and friends.
After serving in the Army in Bremerhaven, Germany, Doug met his beautiful future wife, Sigrid,
who would become his lifelong partner. They returned to the United States, where they raised
two daughters, Claudia Foster (Smith) and Michelle Smith, and shared countless adventures.
Doug's intelligence and sharp wit made him a trusted advisor and a source of comfort for his
family and friends. He was a skilled marketer, working at various colleges, most recently at East
Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania.
In his free time, Doug enjoyed fishing, especially his annual trips to Minnesota with his fishing
buddies. He also loved spending time with his beloved dogs and sharing a beer with good
company.
Doug is survived by his loving wife, Sigrid; his daughters, Claudia Foster and her husband
Ryan, and Michelle M. Smith; his grandchildren, Ayla, Arley, and Sorin Foster; and numerous
cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
