SLATTERY, EDWARD JOSEPH III
God is great.

Eddie Slattery
Born on September 18th, 1949 in Washington, D.C. and has resided in Largo since 1988, passed July 7th, 2015 after a short bout with cancer. Survived by his wife, Sandra Lewis, his parents, Edward J. Jr. & Nancee C., three children, Edward IV, Raymond, Stuart, four stepchildren, and 9 grandchildren. He is also survived by 8 siblings: Matthew, Daniel, Terry, Steven, Melanie, Nancee K., James & Christopher. Ed was a graduate of Gonzaga High School, D.C. winning the prestigious “Barnes Award” recognizing the one student strongest in humility, honor, and reliability. He later graduated from Tampa College with an Education Degree. Ed attended flight school at Washington University, St. Louis, MO and was a certified pilot, working in the airline industry for many years. He first worked at Allegheny Airlines, then as an FAA Air Traffic Controller, and was a pilot for Greenbriar Airlines. Ed also worked as a Pinellas County School teacher, and cherished his 10+ years of work as a logistics supervisor at PODS, Inc.
“Eddie” possessed a kind heart, always going out of his way for others, and befriending many people from all walks of life along the way. He attended St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church, competed in many sports for much of his life including baseball (softball later), football, basketball. He also loved to compete in billiards, horseshoes, darts, and card games. He donated much of his time as a young man using his tremendous sports knowledge coaching his younger siblings in whatever sports they were playing. Eddie had a special knack for motivating and communicating with his players /teams. He also was a diehard Washington Redskins , Tampa Bay Rays, and FSU Seminoles fan. Eddie kept a very positive, enthusiastic demeanor, and always kept a smile even until the very end of his active, eventful life. The family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, and friends that helped Eddie in his time of need.
There will be a Visitation with a Wake Service from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 12th at Moss-Feaster Funeral Home 693 S. Belcher Rd., Clearwater. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, Monday, July 13th at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church, 820 Jasmine Way, Clearwater.
