Elaine Marie (Stuart) Mattingly, 75, of Clearwater, Florida, passed away September 17, 2014, at her residence, under the care of her husband, Ron and son-in-law, Greg. Born in Peru, Illinois, she and her husband moved to Florida i Read Obituary
Dear Ron, Mother and I were very sorry to learn about Elaine's passing and will miss visiting with her at Table Rock Resort. We enjoyed her good cooking and remember fondly seeing her beautiful crafts as she worked on them. She was missed this past October and will be in the future.

I haven't forgotten you, even though it's been some time now since I've seen your face, touched your hand, heard your voice. Yet you are with me all the time.
I sometimes thought you left me. I know better now. You come to me. Sometimes in fleeting moments I feel your presence close by. But I still miss you. And nothing, no person, no joy, no accomplishment, no distraction, not even G-d, can fill the gaping hole your absence has left in my life.
But mixed together with my sadness, there is a great joy for having known you. I want to thank you for the time we shared, for the love you gave, for the wisdom your spread.
Thank you for the magnificent moments and for the ordinary ones, too. There was beauty in our simplicity. Holiness in our unspectacular days. And I will carry the lessons you taught me always.
Your life has ended, but your light can never be extinguished. It continues to shine upon me even on the darkest nights and illuminates my way.

Since the day we moved in next door, 30 years ago, Ms. Elaine has been like a mother to me. Always there to give advise or just listen to me ramble. She helped watch what my son was doing while I was working. We had alot in common, bowling, vacations, talked about sewing and my hobby quilting. Around the holidays we were recipient's of some of her wonderful pecan pies. I am going to really miss Elaine. Hopefully the family remembers I am right next door if they need something.

What can I say other than Thank You Mom. I miss you, but you are in my heart and head. As always the lessons and skills you taught me get used daily. Elaine Mattingly, my Mother-In-Law was a wonderful, loving and caring individual. A person who never met a stranger, always available to offer an opinion, chat for awhile, help when needed or just give a hug. Elaine was more of a mother to me than a mother-in-law. I am and always have been proud to be a part of Elaine and Ron's Family. A son-in-law could not ask for or have a better person as a mother-in-law. We always define life in our own way, it is something that we try to control, attempt to manage and struggle to deal with at times, however as much as we travel through the cycle of life, it actually has its own path for us and no matter how much we try to alter it, or believe at times it’s unfair, we always ask the question “why do bad things happen to good people” life sometimes never gives us this answer. So we continue to travel through life always attempting to do better and be a great person to others. Elaine was one of these “Great” people as she traveled through this cycle of life selfishly as a dedicated wife, caring mother and loving grandmother. Her memory will always live on in our hearts and in our prayers.

John and I cannot tell you how much Elaine touched our hearts. We always had such fun bowling with you two. Her visit with me when I was laid up from the accident meant so much. And John always loved sharing jokes with her. She will always be inour hearts. We will miss you Elaine but know we will one day meet again. Rest in peace sweet lady.

We are so sorry for your loss. There are not enough words, or the right words to bring you comfort at this time, but I wanted to let you know how much we appreciate Elaine.
True, we don’t know Elaine. Not well. I’ve met her, chatted with her when we have been in Florida visiting Betsy. But, no I don’t KNOW her.
However, actions…actions show the heart of the person.
And these are the ACTIONS of Elaine that we know…
-Sidewalk Chalk. Yup. It may seem a small thing, but a mom with small kids visiting and SIDEWALK CHALK comes over?!?! SCORE! This is HOURS of entertainment. Did you know that some of that sidewalk chalk is STILL on Betsy’s back porch and Emery STILL uses it when we visit? Sidewalk Chalk. It seems a small thing, but its evidence. Evidence that Elaine was a NOTICER. She noticed the need, and met it.
-Porch light. Many times on the phone Betsy will say, “Oh, I’d better get my light on, Elaine will be wondering if I’m ok!” This statement is GOLD. That light, shone across a street, into the eyes of the NOTICER. Elaine NOTICED if Betsy’s light wasn’t on. She didn’t WAIT for an ask, she SAW when it wasn’t on and checked in. This, oh, this…this is evidence of a deep love that Elaine showed for her neighbor. She CARED, always. In a steady way, in a comforting way…in a way that WATCHED for a porch light.
Now, these are two small things in a lifetime of small things added up that tell me this: Elaine fully embodied “Love your neighbor as you love yourself”
Her actions are actions that continue to speak into the hearts of Betsy and our entire family.
We are beyond grateful for the friendship and love that Elaine showed us. It has brought much peace of mind to Betsy and Ray’s kids during Ray’s long illness. It has brought numerous smiles to grandkids faces. It has fed many stomachs in this Jones family too!
We are so grateful for Elaine. We are so sorry for your loss, and ours.
