Fotini Ruiz's Obituary
Fotini Ruiz passed away on July 15th, 2025, in Tarpon Springs, Florida. Fotini was born in Athens, Greece, to her parents Eugene and Konstandina Filiopoulos, the second of two children. There, she attended high school in Athens.
Fotini married the love of her life, Edward Ruiz, on February 18th, 1973, in Athens, Greece. The two would live across the world together, living in Athens, but also Brooklyn, New York, Metairie, Louisiana, and Herdon, Virginia, before eventually settling in beautiful Clearwater, Florida. Fotini and Edward would have two wonderful kids together. The two of them were active parishioners at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Clearwater, and Fotini was a particularly devout Greek Orthodox Christian.
Eventually, Fotini began a career in cosmetology, going to cosmetology school, and working in the beauty industry for 20 years before her retirement in 2007.
After her retirement, she and Edward traveled domestically and internationally, seeing all that there was to see.
The most important events in Fotini’s life were her marriage, her children, and her career in cosmetology. She was a beautiful and intelligent woman, caring and generous, and would go out of her way to make you laugh. She loved to cook, bake, and swim in her free time, and spend time with her special friends Roe Hanks, Rene Schramski, and while in Greece, Mary Stavropulou. Her favorite song was Imagine by John Lennon.
Fotini is survived by her loving husband, Edward Ruiz; her daughter, Tina Ruiz; her son, Russell Ruiz; and her brother, Alex Filiopoulos.
