Frances Louise Stavros' Obituary
Frances L. Shaw Stavros age 92, passed peacefully at her home February 4, 2017. She was born and raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey. She was the wife of Gus A. Stavros. They were married for 68 years and have resided in Pinellas County since 1958. She is survived by her husband Gus and their children, Ellen, Paul and Mark Stavros; two grandchildren, Alexandra and Nicholas and one great granddaughter, Madison, one nephew, two nieces and numerous cousins and her long-time personal assistant, Kelly.
She attended Columbia University, served as a WAVE in the Navy during WWII where she was stationed at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida and was an airline stewardess with Eastern Airline before her marriage. She was president of PELAM, a family business, and the Stavros Family Foundation.
Her involvements included: a founder of Ruth Eckerd Hall, Board Member of Leading Ladies, member of Clearwater Women’s Club, Pinellas County PTA, Pinellas County High School Curriculum Committee and Founder of the Pinellas County Education Foundation SAVE dropout VOTEC scholarship program. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church since 1958 where she was a high school Sunday school teacher and a current member of Lutheran Church of the Cross in St. Petersburg. Gus and Frances were patrons of Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary and the Lutheran Outdoors Ministries of Florida, Morton F. Plant Roebling Society, DeTocqueville Society/United Way, Museum of Fine Arts of St. Petersburg, the Dali Museum Order of Salvador, the Mahaffey Theater, American Stage, Holocaust Museum, and a founder of the Palladium Theater. She was a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames.
Mrs. Stavros received many community, educational, business, art and religious awards.
A memorial service has been scheduled for 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 18th at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Clearwater, FL.
The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Pinellas Education Foundation for the Frances Stavros Scholarship Endowment Fund.
