Francis C. Schille's Obituary
Francis, C. Schille (Babe), 95 passed away May 18, 2014 at the home of his son, Timothy Schille.He was born on July 7, 1918, in Harrington, Washington, the second youngest of eight siblings. Babe was an exceptional athlete, playing basketball, football, track, tennis and baseball. An avid bowler, he won the Montana State Bowling Championship in 1959. Later in life he bragged his golf score was equal to his age.Mr. Schille, a WWII Veteran, achieved the rank of Captain serving in the 41st infantry division in the Pacific Theatre. He met Mary K. McClellan, a 1st lieutenant in the Army Corps of Nurses, at a military dance in Rockhampton, Australia. They married on January 1, 1945, in Noemfoor, East Indies. In college he aspired to be a coach, but after working with his brother at a summer job in a brewery he decided to become a Brewmaster. He graduated from the Siebel Institute of Technology in Chicago. He became head Brewmaster and then president of Great Falls Breweries, Inc. in Great Falls Montana. He was voted by his peers and served as president of the Rocky Mountain Brewers Association.Anheuser-Busch hired Mr. Schille in 1965 to be Assistant Brewmaster in Tampa, Florida. Four years later, he was awarded the coveted position of Head Brewmaster at Anheuser-Busch's new brewery in Merrimack, New Hampshire. His talents were used to oversee the construction, start-up and production of the brewery.Mr. Schille retired in 1980 to Clearwater, Florida. His wife Mary K. passed away in 1993 and he later relocated to Statesboro, Georgia.Mr. Schille is survived by his children: Michael Schille of Wesley Chapel, FL; Timothy Schille, Spring Hill, Fl; Katie Sanstead, Marietta, Georgia, Susie Schille, Tampa, Fl; Chuck Schille, Cambridge, Mass; and Chris Schille, Tampa, Fl; twelve grandchildren, (two deceased grandchildren), twelve great-grandchildren, one sister, Virginia Clemens, Gilroy, Calif; and companion of seventeen years, Marney Schille, Ludowicki, Georgia.
