Dr. Gwendolyn Lutz Scott's Obituary
SCOTT, Dr. Gwendolyn Lutz 91, died on July 28, 2015. She was born in Akron, Ohio. She graduated from Ohio State University and the University of Cincinnati Medical School. Her post graduate work was done at the University of Chicago and the University of Cincinnati in internal medicine and cardiology. Dr. Scott was awarded membership in Sigma Xi for her research and publications in cardiology.
She was well known in the Cincinnati area as a courageous woman who pioneered as a woman in medicine and who had a successful career in Ohio. Later she decided to transition to the field of psychiatry and was Chief Resident at Rollman’s Psychiatric Institute. She moved to Dunedin in 1971 and was a key member of the psychiatric staff at Anclote Manor Hospital in Tarpon Springs from 1971 until her retirement in 1984. During this period, she was also a Clinical Assistant Professor of psychiatry at the University of Florida.
In 2000, she was awarded the distinction of “Honorary Alumnus” by the University of Akron in recognition of her generous philanthropy and her exemplary commitment to academic excellence, medical science and professional integrity.
Dr. Scott is listed in the “Who’s Who in American Women” and in “Who’s Who in America.”
During her retirement years, Dr. Scott continued to be an active member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, The Dunedin Country Club, The Clearwater Bay Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae Group and was a Life member of the Florida Medical Association.
She was a loyal, steadfast friend to many people and she helped them with her wisdom and her insights into life. Dr. Scott will be missed by her family, her professional associates and her friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Glen T. Scott and her brother, Robert Lutz. Dr. Scott leaves a stepson, Michael Scott (Patricia), two grandchildren, and one great granddaughter, all of Louisville, KY, a nephew, Thomas Lutz and a cousin, Suzanne Stoner.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 6th at 10:00 am with a Church Service to follow at 11:00 am at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Dunedin. Burial will be at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Suncoast Hospice.
