James Matthew Hammond's Obituary
HAMMOND, JAMES M. 59, of Dunedin, Florida, passed on January 7 to be with the Lord after a 5+ year battle with stage 4 colon cancer. He is survived by his wife Polly, married for 38 years, and their six children. Their true lasting legacy is as follows: Ruth Hammond; Aaron J. Hammond (Lindsey); Rachel Rocco (Chris) [Mitchell and Sarah Grace]; Rebekah Hammond Dorworth (Christopher, Sr.) [Madison, Christopher, Jr.]; Sarah Bijoy (Ranjit); and Joshua Hammond.
Jim was born in Indianapolis, Indiana and graduated from Southport High School, where he lettered in basketball and tennis and was inducted into the Southport High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Jim attended Hanover College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. He was later inducted into the Hanover College Athletic Hall of Fame for basketball and tennis.
His first occupation in Indianapolis after graduating college was a loan review officer for American Fletcher National Bank, n/k/a JP Morgan Chase & Co. He then attended Indiana University McKinney School of Law and graduated in 1984. In that year, the Hammond family moved south to Clearwater, Florida.
In Clearwater, Jim worked for Dynamic Sports Management, Inc. n/k/a ProSport Management, Inc.; Park, Rodnite, Hammond & Ossian, P.A. n/k/a Park, Ossian, Barnaky & Park, P.A. (law firm); and finally as the sole proprietor of the Law Offices of James M. Hammond.
Vice President-Elect Mike Pence has awarded Jim, posthumously, a Sagamore of the Wabash, the highest honor an Indiana governor can bestow upon a citizen.
Above all, Jim was a man of strong faith who influenced others for Christ. Romans 10:9 states, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
