Jean I just found out about your passing. Just wanted to post something and say thank you for hiring a ne'er do well, high school dropout at AIM all those years ago. When I retired I was reflecting on singular moments and people that changed the entire course of my life, and you are one of them. It breaks my heart that I couldn't get to tell you this in person, by the time I started looking you up to tell you, you were already gone.
I had been unemployed for months, about to lose my house, and didn't have many options left. I don't know what you saw in me, but I'm glad you saw something. You taking a chance on me changed my life completely. I never would have had the money to go back to school, never would have had the career I had, would have never met the love of my life, and wouldn't be sitting here retired early.
That degree might as well have your name on it. It never would have happened without you giving me that job, where I actually had some tuition money and wasn't eaten Ramen (ok some Ramen.....) and you worked with me on my crazy schedule so I could go back and forth to class and keep working when I finally did go back.
I still remember the devastated look on your face when AIM had the layoffs, I know you fought hard on it, but don't worry, that was one of the best things to ever happen to me too because I met the love of my life a couple months later at the next job I had and got to spend 15 wonderful years with her. (If you see her where you are, I think you two would get along, she likes people who are a little bit salty, she married me!)
None of those things would have ever happened if you wouldn't have taken a chance on me. I have no idea where I would be today without you. I don't even have the right words to express how grateful I am and wish I would have had a chance to tell you this. Thanks for everything boss.
