Kenneth L. Remming's Obituary
Kenneth Leonard Remming was born on February 1, 1940 in Rochester New York to Herbert C. and Roselyn C. Remming, née Casper.
Kenneth was the oldest of three sons who were all raised in the suburbs of Rochester. He met the love of his life, Penelope (Penny) Murdock at her Sweet 16 party and they were engaged after he graduated from The Aquinas Institute of Rochester (New York) in 1957.
Kenneth (Ken) joined the Air Force in September of that year and after basic training he was sent to Yale University to learn Chinese. He was then deployed to a small island off the coast of Korea where he intercepted and interpreted radio transmissions. Ken and Penny were married on February 27, 1960, three days after he returned from Korea.
They moved to Pinellas County after his tour of duty was complete, where they raised three daughters in a wonderful, love filled home. Ken joined the Pinellas County Sheriff’s office and rose to the rank of Major before retiring in 2001 after 38 years of service to the community. He may have been known as “The Intimidator” at work but at home he was Daddy and Mom was the boss!
After retirement he enjoyed working on model trains with his son-in-law Wayne and going to air shows and military museums with his daughters and grandchildren. Ken loved old-school country music, watching baseball, especially the Tampa Bay Rays, football (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and reading about World War II. He was a member of St. Cecelia’s parish for many years.
He is pre-deceased by; his parents, his brother Edward Remming (Ari), son-in-law Wayne Poorman, and his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Penny.
He is survived by his daughters; Gerilyn (Geri) Remming, Laura (Laurie) Poorman, and Jennifer (Jenny) Tremblay (Phil). His grandchildren; Brandy Driscoll (Jay), Sara Kenny (Rick), Theresa Nye (Joe), Alan Poorman, Brad, Ken, and Natalie Tremblay. His great-grandchildren; Kaleigh Driscoll and Wyatt Nye. Brother Richard Remming (Rita); nieces Bridget and Sarah; nephews Andrew, Martin and Ian.
