She graduated from Kittanning High School, and received a Bachelor’s Degree from then Indiana State Teachers College, and a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Frostburg State College. She married Robert E Kirby in 1954, and had 2 daughters, Kathy and Melanie, he died in 1984 after 30 years of marriage. She married Earl S Ehresman in 1986 and they enjoyed nearly 20 years together before his death in 2005. She then married Ralph Scardino in 2007 who passed a short 11 months later. Lina lived a long and happy life. Her father believed in education and she was among the few women to pursue a college degree in the 1940s. She taught HS at her Alma Mater until meeting and marrying Robert E. Kirby and moving to Cumberland, MD. She touched many students as a long-time Business Teacher and Guidance Counselor at Bishop Walsh High School there. Many students called her “mom” and she loved each class that passed through her doors. She taught typing and accounting to thousands of students and helped many students pursue higher education and careers after high school. After retiring from BWHS, she moved to St Pete Beach, FL and enjoyed the ocean and sunshine of the Gulf Coast. She loved cruising and travelling. Her favorite destinations were New Orleans and her dream trip to Paris in 2014. Lina always loved dancing, and music. She started competitive Ballroom Dancing when she was 80, and won many competitions and enjoyed the challenge of the routines and choreography. A car accident changed her health and abilities and she became a resident at Bon Secours Place Assisted Living, shortly thereafter, where she was a fixture at daily mass and the resident activities. She will be interred at Bay Pines VA Cemetery. Due to the current pandemic, a mass and memorial service will be conducted at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations in Lina D Scardino’s memory to: St Joseph’s Catholic Church, 2025 22nd Ave S, St Petersburg, FL (https://stjosephstpete.org/). She enjoyed the dynamic and vibrant Gospel Service there for many years.
