Oh don't want to forget horse basketball and Indian ball in the alley, and cork ball on the grade school playground. Also fun with Loran wrestling on the living room carpet, horsey rides on his shoulders, and piggy back rides on his back. Big fun.
I remember playing touch football with Loren at Bohrer Park with all the South St Louis County cops. Loren was the quarterback and very good.
Loren took me under his wing when I was a new policeman in Afton.
A special guy. Rest in peace.
LORAN was my training officer when I came out of the academy as a St. Louis County police officer in 1973. He taught me to be fair with people and the importance of discretion. He was truly a huge influence in a career that I loved. I will always be indebted to him. RIP 598.🙏

Loran and I were lifelong friends from our time with the St Louis County PD. I entered the academy in January of 1969 and as I remember, Loran was one class before me. Through those years and into our retirements we were very close, even after his move to Florida. For many years we enjoyed playing poker. He had a passion for all things gambling! Loran was devoted to family and very proud of all of them. Loran always was sure to remember friends and include them in family events such as weddings. This guy was so full of life and was by no means a typical 86 yr old man. He maintained a childlike character about him and was always smiling, even though he was referred to by Carol as Old Gloom & Doom. He was forever complaining about most everything, but with a smile on his face. Difficult to understand how he could be gone in such a short time following a seemingly minor event.
I case this shows up a few times, this is the third time I have posted this memory.
I only knew Loran for a short time. In June of 2022 Loran’s sister in law, Mary Luchan ask me to take her brother in law, Ron’s brother to play golf. Well lucky for me we went. I had a remarkable day with Loran, he was a great golf partner. That day I had the best round of golf in my life. I made 3 birdies and a hole in one, wow what a day. We had a great time together and a day that I will never forget. It’s hard to think about him being gone because he was so full of life that day. I also learned a lot about Loran’s kids and his brother and wonderful sister in law. He was a person that really enjoyed life. I know anyone that knew him will really miss him. He was such a kind person. To family and friends I am so very sorry for your loss. May his memory live with each of you foe eternity.
Just playing in our big, side yard on Devonshire when we were kids. Also he took we kids to Springdale swimming pool, and to the drive-ins, in his lime green Ford convertible. So much fun. Thanks for the good times. Bless you, from sister, Karen.
