Margaret (Maggie) E. Ballentine's Obituary
Margaret Ellen (Butters) Ballentine, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, aged 92, passed away June 28, 2023 at Aravilla Clearwater Memory Care in Clearwater, Florida. Margaret was born on February 17, 1931 to Bernice and Val Butters in Brawley, California. She grew up in Brawley and attended Magnolia Elementary School and Brawley Union High School. After high school, Margaret graduated from San Francisco College for Women in San Francisco, California. She met her future husband, the late William (Bill) Ballentine who was in the US Navy, stationed at San Diego, and they married on June 21, 1952. They were married for 69 years and had five children. Margaret and her husband moved to Lima, Ohio in 1963. She attended the University of Dayton and earned a Master’s Degree in Education. She worked for more than 25 years as a teacher with Lima City Schools and retired in 1988. Margaret was a long time member of St Charles Catholic Church in Lima, Ohio, was an enthusiastic golfer, and talented sewer. Her hobbies included, but were not limited to, baking, camping, crafting, reading, gardening, playing with her golden retrievers, and socializing with friends. She was a snowbird to Florida several months each year where she enjoyed spending time with her adult children and grandchildren who reside there. Margaret is survived by her children: Robert (Ellen) Ballentine of Delaware, Ohio, Joseph (Terry) Ballentine of San Antonio, Florida, Jerry (Judy) Ballentine of Spring Hill, Florida, Karol (Steve) Talner of Clearwater, Florida, and Greg (Lisa) Ballentine of Spring Hill, Florida, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. The family will not be having any public visitation or service at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Charles Catholic Church in Lima, Ohio or the charity of your choice in her name.
