Mark Andrew Gluski's Obituary
Mark Andrew Gluski, 63, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2015, in Clearwater, Florida, after a courageous battle with cancer with his loving family by his side.
Mark was born on May 22, 1951 in Detroit, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerome Gluski; mother, Adeline Gluski (Gniewek); and brother, Philip Gluski. He is survived by his wife of nearly 33 years, Roberta; Children, Thomas (Janet), Jenna; Grandchildren, Grace, Austin; Siblings, Greg Gluski (Judi), Brigid Kobylarz (Hank), Rod Gluski (Mary), Valery Jazwinski (John), Sally Niemczewski (Bob), Trudy Jenkins (Larry), Joe Gluski (Jo), Mary Gluski (Kenny), and many nephews and nieces.
Mark grew up in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. He was active in the Catholic Church and was an alter boy when he was younger. He played and excelled at many sports while in high school. He worked at UPS while putting himself through college. He graduated from Wayne State University in Michigan with a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice. He began his law enforcement career with the Wayne County Sheriff Department in Detroit, Michigan. One day after work he decided to head west to look for another job. He walked into the Garden City Police Department in Kansas where he met Roberta, the love of his life. He then transferred to the Largo Police Department and has resided in Florida ever since. After 19 years with the Largo Police Department, he retired, however, continued working at FedEx and then TSA. He always loved to work in a uniform and to help people!
Mark was a very loving and giving person. His number one priority was his family. He and Roberta eventually settled with their two children, Thomas and Jenna, in Florida and would make yearly summer trips to Kansas and Michigan to visit the extended family. For many years Mark worked the midnight shift at the police department so he could pick up Thomas and Jenna from school, help with homework, and take the kids to their extra curricular activities. Mark loved watching his kids on the soccer field, but made sure they knew education was imperative. He was there to help guide them through all levels of school and was proud they both graduated from college and then grad school. He would always brag to anyone who would listen about having two successful children who work as physical therapists. He was also the family cook and always stressed the importance of the four of them always sitting down for dinner together every night.
Marks hobbies included spending time with family and friends, being outside working on the yard or cleaning the cars, barbequing on his Weber grill, drinking beer, exercising, watching sports, reading the newspaper, playing sudoku, golfing and spending time on the water while boating, water skiing, and fishing.
Mark will always be remembered for his easy-going spirit and jokester attitude. He was famous for his one-liners: only on the eighth day, life is good today, and six of one half a dozen of another.
“Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words, and missed beyond measure.”
Mark’s funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 9th, from 3-5 pm at the Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 693 South Belcher Road, Clearwater, Florida 33764.
