"I carry your heart in my heart..."With forever love
What a wonderful lady and a remarkable teacher, I was lucky enough to have her at DHS and again at SPC. The Humanities classroom will be empty without her. May God Bless Her Family. DHS class of 73
Mrs. B opened our eyes to beauty in the world and the many wonders waiting for us outside of Dunedin. She's one of the reasons that I chose a career in the arts--which took me all over the western world and provided 40 years of incomparable thrills. I've just retired back to Dunedin and when I packed up my house after 25 years in Washington, DC, I passed on my copy of Arts and Ideas to an aspiring artist. That was the humanities book she used to help ignite a passion for the arts in untold scores of students. To paraphrase Stephen Sondheim, "She taught us how to see." And that is an enduring legacy.
I was in Mrs Brinklows humanties class and graduated in 1970. If there was ever a teacher that made learning fun, it was Mrs. Brinklow. She always made humanties from the past, come to the future. She was a very adored and loved teacher. I am sure she will be missed but our memories of her will continue on for years. Marde Hamilton Soutullo
I was privileged to know Martha through the Jr. League. I took Creative Writing from her at SPJC in 1995. Writing was indeed a great pleasure to me, under Martha's guidance. Martha was one of God's angels on earth. She is missed already by so many who loved her.
I was fortunate to have traveled to Europe with Mrs. Brincklow in 1992. We spent the spring semester in the classroom, learning about art and architecture and then we spent the summer in museums, hotels, cafes, planes and trains. It was an experience that enriched my life in ways I had not expected. I am forever thankful for Mrs. Brincklow's charisma and love of teaching. My sincerest condolences to the family and friends. (Class of 1993 Countryside HS)
I was a study hall aide for one of Mrs Brinklow's humanities classes in High School and was touched in many ways through her teachings and gentle nudges. She introduced me to the arts through her love of music, paintings and history. I carried her teachings overseas with my then husband as we traveled throughout many contries of Europe in 1970-71. I would regale him with anecdotes about classes and how she inspired me to learn on my own. I don't hear any piece of classical music or see a picture by one of the Masters or see a picture of a Greek temple that I don't think of her. If I feel that way I know each person that was blessed to have her as a friend, teacher or Mother was equally blessed by her blessed life. My condoloences to the family. She will be missed so much. Leigh Hand Degenhardt Graduating Class of 1968.
For those of us who were lucky enough to sit in Mrs. Brinklow's Humanities class I felt she taught us more than just art, music, literature and architecture. Just sitting in her class she empowered and inspired me to believe I could be a better student. Like many many others I have never forgotten her and have always been thankful that my life was touched by such a loving and caring person. What a blessing to have been part of her DHS family. Judy Kilgore Hicks Class of 1968
All I can do is echo my thrill of the beautiful gifts Mrs. B. shared with us all. While it is sad to consider her passing, it is with joy that so many of the young lives she touched carry on the passion for art and history. Class of 1970
My heartfelt condolences to the Brincklow family during this time of loss and sorrow. Mrs. Brincklow touched many lives and left lasting impressions of those she taught and came in contact with through her passion for teaching. I remember her always with a ready smile and kind words. She will be greatly missed and longed remembered for her dedication to education. Judy Shelton Wood (Class of 1963 Dunedin HS)
