Matthew Iber's Obituary
Matthew Iber, 59, of Fairmont, WV passed away suddenly Sunday, January 14th, 2024, while doing what he loved – traveling with his beloved wife Vicki. His loss is very unexpected, and profoundly felt by his family and many friends.
Matt was born January 10th, 1965, to William (Bill) and Peggy Iber in Charleston, SC. Growing up in a military family, he traveled the world even as a child. He attended Auburn University from 1983 to 1985, eventually graduating in 2006 from Fairmont State University with a degree in Criminal Justice and worked for the FBI in Clarksburg WV for the past 34 years. He was a very humble man, rarely speaking of his own accomplishments, perhaps because the biggest part of his life was always the people in it: family, friends, and coworkers. He married the love of his life, Vicki Iber, in 1997, and the two have shared many happy adventures together across 27 years and 5 continents. Throughout his life, his extraordinarily kind and generous heart led him to serve God and others wherever he was, including his home church, Christ Episcopal. He touched the lives of many, many friends, as well as countless strangers, through his volunteer work. He loved and cared for both people and animals, fostering senior dogs to give their final years comfort and happiness.
He is survived by his wife Vicki, mother Peggy, brother Chris and wife Naomi, 3 nephews -- Jeremy, Jordan, and Justin, numerous cousins, and “the kids”: dogs Peyton, Destiny, and Sophie.
Two services to celebrate Matt's life will be held: March 2 at 11:00am, St James Episcopal Church, 5614 Old Mill Rd, Alexandria, VA 22309 and on March 9 at 2:00pm, Christ Episcopal Church, 824 Fairmont Avenue, Fairmont WV 26554. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Marion County Humane Society 2731 Locust Ave, Fairmont, WV 26554.
