Neil James Arfmann's Obituary
Neil Arfmann, 88, of Palm Harbor, passed on Saturday June 6, 2020 at Suncoast Hospice Care Center. Neil was born in New York City and resided for many years in Tappan, NY. He served in the Navy during the Korean War. Neil joined the New York City Police Department in 1954. After 20 years of service he retired from NYPD and moved to Clearwater, Florida where he served as a Deputy Sheriff with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office until 1994. Neil was a long time resident of Countryside and served as a volunteer for Clearwater Police Department.
His beloved wife of 59 years, Marge, predeceased him in 2013. Neil is survived by his 3 children; Donna Griffin of Palm Harbor; Neil (John) Arfmann of New Port Richey; and Sue Arfmann of Riverview; grandsons Jeffrey Hitt of Clearwater; Andrew Hitt of Tampa; and Tommy Johnson of Riverview; great-grandsons Vincent Hitt (5) and Tristan Hitt (3); brother John Arfmann of Tenafly, NJ; sister Julianne Vaccaro of Daytona Beach, FL and many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
Neil loved deep sea fishing for Grouper in the Gulf of Mexico, playing the penny slot machines at The Hard Rock Casino, a good poker game with friends, watching the Tampa Bay Rays, and spending time with his family. He will truly be missed.
Visitations will be held on Thursday June 11th at Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 1320 Main St., Dunedin FL from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Espiritu Santo Catholic Church in Safety Harbor on Friday June 12th at 10:30am, followed by a Celebration of Life reception for Neil's family and friends at Countryside Country Club. Neil will be laid to rest during a 3:00pm graveside service at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park in Clearwater.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Neil's memory may be made to Tunnel2Towers to honor his military and law enforcement service, or to The Humane Society of Pinellas where Neil adopted his beloved dog, Sparky, and several other family pets.
