Reginald E Slater's Obituary
Reginald E Slater
Uncle, Great-uncle, Cousin, Friend
March 18, 1919 – June 14, 2015
Reggie Slater was born in London, England in 1919 to Albert and Margaret Slater. One of nine children, Reggie grew up in Isle of Dogs area in London and was a lifelong fan of the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. He found odd jobs to make money as a teen, even selling cakes out of his trunk. He was a gunner in the British Army, fought in WWII, and traveled around the world. Reggie participated in “D” Day as part of the Royal Regiment of Artillery from 1944-1945 protecting the Allied Merchant ships and their sea lanes from enemy fire.
Reggie was a devoted uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was a salesman and traveled to many parts of England for his job, and then moved to the US in 1960’s and worked for Merck Pharmaceuticals. He enjoyed golf, traveling abroad and visiting with friends. He moved to Florida in retirement and enjoyed the warm weather all year long.
Reggie was a devoted friend, loving uncle and always had a twinkle in his eye. He enjoyed a good laugh, was charming, and he was always a gentleman. He will be dearly missed.
