Sally Visscher StarrettMatriarch, Teacher, Reader,Tireless Church worker and Friend to allSally Visscher Starrett, 99, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, October 23, 2013.All who knew and loved her are invited to attend the memorial service to be held on Wednesday, October 30th at 2PM at Church of the Ascension, Clearwater. Sally was born March 14, 1914 on Staten Island, NY and moved to Mountain Lakes, NJ with her family in 1919. Sally first love in life was reading. She was also a life-long learner. A member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Mountain Lakes, she attended St. John's School (now the Wilson School) all through her childhood and graduated from Morristown High School in 1932. She graduated from William Smith College, Geneva, New York, Summa Cum Laude in 1936, which is where she met the love of her life, Warren (Stubby) Starrett. They were married December 30, 1939 in Mountain Lakes and moved frequently for the first 13 years of their marriage, courtesy of Eastman Kodak Co. Sally enjoyed a career in teaching wherever she lived.Sally, Stubby and their 3 girls lived in Morristown, NJ from 1952-1978, where she was very active at St. Peter's Episcopal Church and the Woman's Club, Morristown. In 1978, they moved to Clearwater Beach and Sally quickly became involved in the life of the Church of the Ascension, Clearwater. She was a life-long learner of the Bible, and thoroughly enjoyed the many groups to which she belonged. She founded the Prayer Group, of which she was still leader.Sally was predeceased by her husband of over 60 years, Warren D. and daughter Ann S. Doyle, and her husband James C. Doyle, South Orange, NJ. Mrs. Starrett is survived by her 2 daughters, Marjorie S. Tompkins (Tom), of Chatham, New Jersey and Emily S. Bocek (Carl), of Beaufort, S.C.; 9 Grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.
