Wanda Durso's Obituary
Wanda Durso, 96, passed away on the early morning March 21st, 2025, at her residence in Safety Harbor, Florida.
Wanda was born at her grandmother's house in Middleport, Pennsylvania to her parents, Peter and Pauline Galuska on March 4th, 1929. In 1931, the family moved to Yonkers, New York where her father would run the family's coal delivery business. Wanda spent every summer at her grandmother's home between the ages of 5 and 15.
After graduating high school, Wanda began to work at the York Glove Mill in Yonkers where she operated knitting machines for army gloves. Her employment helped her pay for her first car which was a 1938 Pontiac convertible with a rumble seat.
On February 17, 1948, Wanda met Robert Durso at the Polish Center in Yonkers where they danced all night. They met again a few weeks later where they began dating and fell in love.
Robert and Wanda were married on November 28, 1950 at St. Casimeres Church in Yonkers. They later moved to Stamford, Connecticut where they raised their four daughters and Sunday family visits became a tradition.
When Robert and Wanda retired, they moved to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida in 1989.
Wanda enjoyed sewing, painting and drawing. Her favorite songs are I'll Be Seeing You, Sentimental Journey and Now is the Hour.
Wanda is survived by her brother John Galuska, sister-in-law Roseann Galuska, daughters Sandra Durso, Lois Acheson and Lorraine Durso. Grandchildren Jennifer Passero, Robert Passero, Jessica Kapadia, Michael Passero, Ryan Gayda, James Acheson; great granddaughters Naya and Leela Kapadia, and 19 loving nieces and nephews.
Wanda will be remembered as a sweet, kind, strong and happy woman that loved to laugh and spend time with her family. Her family was everything to her.
She is now in Heaven with her husband Bob Durso and daughter Diane Durso.
A private family viewing took place on March 24, 2025 at Moss Feaster Funeral Home in Dunedin, Florida.
